Odoo for accounting firms: time tracking, client files and invoicing.

Two Dynapps consultants working at their desks with laptops

An accounting firm sells time. Every hour your team spends on a client file has to land on the right file, and at month-end that time has to become an invoice.

In many firms the hours sit in one tool, the documents in another and the invoices in a third. The view per client only appears after the fact, when the conversation about an overrun is already the wrong one.

This post shows how Odoo brings time tracking, client files and invoicing together for accounting firms and fiduciaries, and where to start.

One platform, from new client to invoice.

Odoo publishes an industry package for accounting firms. It combines the apps a firm uses every day:

  • CRM and Sales for the pipeline and the quotes.

  • Project and Timesheets for client work and billable hours.

  • Documents to collect and store client documents.

  • Sign for electronic signatures.

  • Accounting for invoicing and the firm's own finances.

  • Equity to map UBO structures.

  • Databases to reach your clients' Odoo databases from one dashboard.

The package runs on Odoo Enterprise.

Time tracking per client file.

In Odoo every client assignment is a project, with its own tasks. Your team logs time on those tasks with timesheets. The project dashboard shows the time spent and the profitability per project while the work is still running.

Those timesheets are the basis for the invoice. You invoice the time that was actually tracked, without copying hours from one system to another.

Timesheets and attendance are not the same thing.

Timesheets record which client an hour went to. Attendance records when someone started and stopped working. From 1 January 2027 every Belgian employer has to record working hours digitally, and Odoo Attendances covers that part. Read more about mandatory time tracking in 2027.

Client files and documents in one place.

Each project gets its own document workspace, where you store and organise the client's documents. Document collection is automated.

The accounting firm package also adds what a fiduciary needs on the client record: storage of identity documents, a dedicated tab for anti-money-laundering checks, and the mission and recurrence details once a project is linked.

Client data stays separated. Security groups per client prevent one client's data from showing up for another, even within the same Odoo database. The audit trail records who accessed what, and when.

Invoicing on your terms.

Odoo invoices on time and material, on fixed rates or on milestones.

Since 1 January 2026 every Belgian company liable to VAT has to use structured electronic invoices, sent through the Peppol network. Odoo sends and receives Peppol invoices. For firms that manage several clients, the Peppol access point can sit at firm level with routing per client, or per client when the client owns its own Peppol identifier.

Faster bookkeeping for your clients.

Odoo has an accounting firms mode, which you switch on in the Accounting settings for customer invoices, vendor bills or both. You enter the invoice number yourself, and a total including tax field lets you type the total while Odoo creates the invoice line.

Bank synchronisation and automatic matching do the rest. According to Odoo, 95% of transactions are matched automatically with the financial records.

Questions, answered

Everything you need to know about Odoo for accounting firms.

  • Yes. Odoo publishes an industry package for accounting firms that brings CRM, Sales, Project, Timesheets, Documents, Sign, Accounting, Equity and Databases together on one platform. The package runs on Odoo Enterprise.

  • Each client assignment is a project with its own tasks. Your team logs time on those tasks with timesheets, and the project dashboard shows the time spent and the profitability per project. The invoice is based on those timesheets.

  • Odoo invoices on time and material, on fixed rates or on milestones. Invoices can go out as Peppol e-invoices, which every Belgian company liable to VAT has to use since 1 January 2026.

  • Odoo handles Peppol e-invoicing through configured access-point integration, with one access point shared across entities or one per entity depending on the architecture. The Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 format is supported natively for both sending and receiving structured invoices. For accounting firms managing multiple clients, the access point can be configured at firm level with per-client routing, or per-client where the client owns the Peppol identifier directly.

  • A setting in Odoo Accounting for customer invoices, vendor bills or both. You enter the invoice number yourself, and a total including tax field lets you type the total while Odoo creates the invoice line.

  • Dynapps holds ISO 27001 certification, which means the operational security framework around Odoo deployment (access management, change control, incident response, hosting infrastructure) follows the 27001 controls. GDPR compliance for sensitive financial client data configures inside Odoo through user-access controls, audit trail on data-access events, configurable retention rules per data category, and data-subject request handling workflows. For multi-client accounting firms, per-client security groups prevent cross-client data exposure even within the same Odoo database. Sensitive fields can be configured for elevated access requirements (additional authentication, time-limited access, supervisory approval). Audit-trail behaviour records who accessed what when across all critical transactions. The configuration work sits in mapping the firm's GDPR posture into Odoo's permissions model, and validating the audit-trail completeness against the firm's compliance officer's requirements.
